Timothy Coleman

On April 18, 2026, the world lost a truly steadfast man. Timothy Alexander Coleman, age 59, of O'Hara Township, Pennsylvania, passed away surrounded by loved ones after a sudden, unexpected battle with colon cancer that precluded a life-saving liver transplant. Tim leaves behind a legacy of love, tenacity, and passion. Tim was born on October 20, 1966, in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania, to Louise (Baton) Coleman and Jack Henry Coleman. Tim was a graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School (1985), and he earned his bachelor's degree in Speech Communications and Sports Broadcasting from The Pennsylvania State University (1991). Tim married Megan (née Casey) on July 17, 1999; together, they shared thirty-one years - and two amazing daughters, who were Tim's greatest joy. He loved a being "girl dad:" making breakfasts and getting the girls ready for school - even if that meant heating up the car in negative degree weather; attending decades of football and basketball games, watching his daughters as cheerleaders; visiting their favorite vacation spot of Hilton Head, S.C.; playing at the pool doing chicken wars; and finding the biggest Christmas Tree each year to cut down at the tree farm. Tim would also always find so much laughter in dogs - his beloved dogs, and all dogs. Tim's other passion was sports - football, golf, and, especially, hockey - His hockey career began at the age of seven, and included serving as an award-winning defenseman and captain of the junior Penguins, while also playing at Fox Chapel, Ohio University, and Penn State. Tim then took his expertise to coaching at Mars High School for nearly a decade. A parent once told his family that "Tim is an above-average salesman, a great dad, and a phenomenal hockey coach." Tim's safety sales career spanned thirty years and many stops, including a decade at MSA Safety, and, most recently, Premier Safety. He was a very dedicated Penn State alumni, and particularly a Penn State hockey supporter - attending all games whenever he had the opportunity. Tim is survived by his devoted wife, Megan; his very loving daughters, Shannon Casey (partner Connor John MacEachern), and Louise Elizabeth (Elle); his parents, Louise and Jack; his sister, Caroline Coleman Faub; nieces and nephews Georgia Bassler, Ashlynne Cunningham, Leland Cunningham, Coleman (Cole) Faub, Ronald Jackson (R.J.) Cunningham, and Ethan (Kayla) Ziccardi; black lab best friend, Remington; and Aunts Nancy (Coleman) Bryson, Linda (Baton) Pool, Nancy (Giacobbi) Coleman, and Uncle G. Scott (Janet) Baton, and his cousins. Tim is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Caroline Baton and William (Lyle) and Dorothy Coleman, paternal uncles William Coleman, David Coleman, and Dan Bryson, and cousins Charles Baton and Laura (Pool) Huber. Tim will be tremendously missed by both family and friends. It is fitting that Tim's visitation falls on the final day of the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh and Game 4 of the Penguins' Round 1 playoff game. The visitation will be held on Saturday, the 25th of April from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomas M. Smith Funeral Home, 930 Center Avenue, Blawnox, PA ,15238. Street parking is permitted. A funeral service will be held on Friday, the 22nd of May at 11:00 a.m. at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15238. If you are traveling to the visitation this Saturday, due to the NFL Draft, we suggest that friends and family traveling from the South and West may want to take 279N to 79N to either Wexford or Cranberry to avoid delays in highways going into downtown Pittsburgh / the North Shore.
