Mildred M. Wertman

Mildred M. "Millie" Wertman Age 88, of Richland Township, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. She is survived by her husband, George J. Wertman; children, Geralyn (Mike) DeFelice, John Matvya, Mark (Cyndi) Matvya, Czyre "George" (Lori Drury) Wertman and Gia (Frank) Tatone; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and sister, MaryAnn (Henry) Presutti. Millie was preceded in death by her son, Jay Matvya; and her parents, Peter and Mary (Bulik) Cushman. Millie was born during the Great Depression in East Pittsburgh on July 5, 1933, and grew up in Braddock, PA. She loved to sing hymns and play the violin. Millie was an avid book reader, loving all things non-fiction as well as classic literature. She was a woman of strong faith, passionate about the Word of God and helping others to solidify their beliefs in Jesus Christ. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and loved her husband George dearly and the many pets they had over the years. She had a jovial laugh and loved to cook for her family and was exceptionally good at baking fabulous specialties such as nut rolls and pies. Millie would always look forward to the holidays, and seeing her loved ones gather together for good conversation and a meal that she prepared from scratch. Millie would always look forward to sharing robust stories with her sister and cousins about their family history and her happy childhood memories of visiting the "farm," especially the stories about her beloved "Cherry Way." Millie greatly loved nature and found beauty in everything, seeing all things through God's eyes. She would continually write beautiful emails about the seasons as they changed, love to watch the deer, fawns, and bunnies in her back yard, feed the cardinals and little birds, and would write about the crystal icicles that sparkled from the light in her house as they hung from her huge trees covered with snow in the winter. Her memory will be held forever in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched and loved her so. Services and celebration of life to remain private.
