Marion E. Yates

Marion Morrow Yates Of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her home on October 14, 2023, at age 102. Marion was born on September 2, 1921, to the late Ralph H. Morrow and Margaret E. Lott-Morrow. She was raised on her family's farm in New Kensington, PA, and as things would turn out, ended up spending most of her life there. The farm is where she was truly happiest. Her greatest joy was sitting on her porch, surrounded by nature, family, and friends. During her working years, Marion was employed as a secretary at PPG and Golf Research. In a time when many women were not yet in the workplace, she remarkably balanced a full-time job with the demands of a growing family. Indeed, in so many ways, she was truly ahead of her time. As part of the greatest generation, she saw a lot of history: 18 presidents, a World War, and a plethora of new technology she would have never imagined growing up. Yet despite all her experiences, she stayed true to the simple things in life. She believed in the tenants of the golden rule, the power of prayer, and wholesome healthy living. These made her most happy. Marion was preceded in death by her loving husband Cecil H. Yates. Her siblings were the late Harold Morrow, the late Alvin Morrow and the late Helen Morrow Merryman. She is survived by her children and their spouses. These include Katherine E. Forrest (Gaithersburg, MD), Ralph and Rosalinde Yates (Atlanta, GA), Ernie and Ellen Yates (Catawissa, PA), and Cecil and Judy Yates (Lower Burrell, PA). Marion also loved and was quite proud of her eight grandchildren. In this regard, she is survived by Brent and Heather Yates (McMurray, PA), Jeff Forrest (Tustin, CA), Dan Forrest (Frederick, MD), Lindy and Shaun Gaul (Catawissa, PA), Peter Yates (Atlanta, GA), Paul Yates (Boulder, CO), Christian and Caila Yates (New Kensington, PA), and Ryan Yates (Freedom, PA). She also loved having her nine great-grandchildren visit often. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in the United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in honor of Marion's life to the United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington.
