Marguerite Cameron Lyle

Marguerite Carruthers Cameron Lyle, age 90, passed peacefully in her sleep on February 5, 2023. She was born to the late William and Mary Carruthers in Oliver, Nova Scotia on October 6, 1932. Marguerite was raised as one of eleven children and enjoyed growing up in Oliver. She attended a one room school, before attending Beauty School in New Brunswick. In 1955, she married her best friend and love Ronald I. Cameron. Together they relocated to the U.S. moving several times while Ron worked with The Corp of Engineers on dam and flood control projects. They eventually settled in Warren, PA, where they raised three children. Marguerite and Ronald were together until he passed in 1989. She was the only one of her family that moved to the United States was very proud to become a U.S. citizen, where her main job was being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and volunteer. Known to be an avid cook and baker by all, she also received many county fair best in show ribbons as a knitter of beautiful and intricate sweaters, afghans and socks. Marguerite was also a green thumb gardener with quick wit and a smile on her face, always! Later in life she took piano lessons and taught herself the banjo and button box accordion. She loved to play in the senior kitchen band, where she adored her friendships at the Warren Senior Center. She was a member of the Stoneham Methodist Church and eventually Covenant United Methodist Church. Also a member of the Ladies Aide Society and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served many years as chaplain. As a volunteer, she assisted Meals on Wheels, Warren General Auxiliary and her children's various activities. You could say Marguerite's feet never sat still! Always a lover of travel, Marguerite delighted in going on cruises as well as polka dances where she met and married her second husband, John B. Lyle, who passed in 2013. They enjoyed many dances, fun trips all around the world and wonderful companionship into their twilight years. Marguerite then relocated to the home of her daughter in Fox Chapel and then eventually to The Memory Unit at Woodside Place where she was loved and treated with dignity until her death. She was known to always be smiling, dancing, and singing in the halls. Marguerite is survived by two sisters in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia; three children Blaine (Sharon) of Sellersville, Pa, Ronna (Chris) Riffle of Fox Chapel, Pa, and Michael (Cindy Guthrie) of Warren, Pa; grandchildren Bradley, Hilary, Chloe, Jennifer and Janelle; 8 great-grandchildren and a large extended family in Nova Scotia. At Marguerite's request, there will be no viewing. A private burial service for immediate family only will be held at the gravesite in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Woodside Place of Presbyterian Senior Care, 1215 Hulton Rd, Oakmont, PA 15139. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Woodside Place and Bridges Hospice.
