James Stevens Iams

James (Jim) Stevens Iams, 83, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born to Taylor and Anne Iams, James was a devoted son and brother to the late Ted Iams. He was a beloved husband of Patricia Iams (Curran), for 40 years, and a proud father to his sons Jonathan Iams and Bryan Iams (Janine), and stepfather to Christopher Jones. Jim was also a cherished grandfather to four grandchildren: Kate Iams, Ben Iams, Ella Iams, and Emily Iams. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed writing with the most beautiful cursive penmanship and was an avid reader, amassing a personal library that reflected his insatiable curiosity and love of learning. No subject was off limits to him, though he enjoyed books on philosophy, and he embraced knowledge and continuous learning with enthusiasm. He also loved cars including his Austin Heeley 3000, a nice cup of coffee, playing the drums, listening to his music collection, and taking regular vacations at Cape May, New Jersey. Known as a self-proclaimed handyman, Jim sometimes referred to by wife Pat as "Mister Amazing" enjoyed tackling various projects around their home in Highland Park, just outside Pittsburgh. Jim attended Mt. Lebanon High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, where he was president of the student council and also enjoyed playing the trumpet and bugle, including doing the "First Call" at Kentucky's Keeneland Race Course. He furthered his education by obtaining a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from American University in Washington, D.C. Professionally, James dedicated much of his career to Taylored Industries, a company founded by his father in Harmar Township. As president, he, along with his brother Ted, led the distributor and fabricator of thermal electrical materials and other manufactured products for several decades. Beyond his business endeavors, Jim was committed to giving back to the community. He volunteered and supported nonprofits such as Contact Pittsburgh, an organization focused on suicide prevention and crisis support. A true animal lover, Jim adored their three golden retrievers over the years-Hubert, Max and Austin. In retirement, one of Jim's favorite past times was spending time with them at the park.
