Dan Anthony Mihon

Dan passed peacefully in his home in Sarver, Pennsylvania surrounded by his adoring family. He was fondly known as Mihon, Dad, Big D, Papa and Double Papa to the lucky. Dan leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy Kilmer Mihon, and his four ride or die children; daughters Candy (Chuck Pulaski), Carrie Carlino (John Roney), Christin Mihon (Sean McCracken), and his son, Nick Mihon. Dan adored his 5 grandchildren and always sat in the bleachers or audience for their various activities: Mike Carlino, Shanna Haberman (Rob), Caterina Pulaski, CJ Pulaski (Courtney), and Madison Pulaski. He was also blessed with six great-grandkids: Julian, Landon, Hayden, Jaxson, Avayda, and Liliana. Dan is survived by his sister, Lana Mihon (Octavian Petrescu). Dan is part of a large extended family including 34 first cousins, and cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews. Last but not least, Dan's cherished friends who were always such a vital part of his pit crew. Dan was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice (Tappero) Mihon and his brother, John Connolly. That heavenly reunion will be beautiful! Dan was born on May 27, 1946 in Dearborn, Michigan. He graduated from Dearborn High School in 1964 and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1970. His electrical career revved up at Ford Motor Company, where he became a Journeymen Electrician continued at Westinghouse, and Eaton as Senior Training Engineer. In his younger days, Dan had a need for speed, tearing up the roads in his hot rods and fully restored Triumph motorcycle. He even sported a pair of sandles fashioned by old tires in the '70's! Later on, he found his horsepower passion in restoring old cars with his trusty sidekick and son-in-law, Chuck. Dan's big heart always had room to help friends and church members with their handyman needs. He also served on the board of Cheswick Christian Academy and taught Sunday School there for more than two decades. He was also revved up about car shows and loved his mostly-annual vacations "Up North" in Beulah, Michigan, where he created memories with his parents, siblings, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He took his last dip in Crystal Lake this past August with 4 generations of his crew. Dan always knew God Himself was the Master of 'the race' and found his refueling amongst the believers. We are sure Dan is causing some chaos on the streets of gold with his dear friends and family who finished the race before him. A viewing will be held at Thomas M. Smith Funeral Home & Crematory Ltd., at 930 Center Avenue in Blawnox on Friday January 26th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the Funeral service will be held at the funeral home the next morning at 11:00 am on January 27th. Family and friends are to meet at the funeral home at 10:30am. Dan's memory will forever be cherished, as he left burnout marks on the hearts of his beloved family and friends. We will forever miss his wise cracks and humor, we will honor the lessons he taught us about 'the race' and carry him in our hearts. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dan's Hospice nurses, Makenna Hopkins and Shannon Huchko and Pastor John Tirpak, who took such compassionate care of Dan during his final laps. Dan truly came to love the hospice staff that cared for him-we could tell by the way he teased them mercilessly. We are blessed you were by our side at the finish line. Please accept our sincerest gratitude. Dan told us all he will be waiting for us "at the East Gate" when it's our turn, and we have no doubt we will see him again.
