Charles Robert Quillin PhD.

Dr. Charles Robert Quillin died peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Pittsburgh at the age of 87. Charlie, as he was known by many, was born on January 14, 1938 in Crawfordville, IN. He was the son of Walter Leverett Quillin and Mary Mildred (Krug) Quillin. Charlie was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald M. Quillin and Richard K. Quillin. He is survived by two nieces; Mary Beth Quillin, Grand Rapids, MI., and Shawna Marie Quillin Bayati, Port Townsend, WA; grandniece, Margaret Elaine Hansen and great grandnephew, Oscar B. Hansen." A man of proud intellect and unwavering principles, Charlie was respected by his peers and cherished by those who knew him. His professional career started in 1960 when he received a Bachelor's Degree in Botany & Zoology from Wabash College. In 1965 he received a Doctor of Philosophy in Cell & Cellular Molecular Biology at Brown University. From 1965-1970, Charlie was at Colby College, Waterville, Maine, where he held the positions of Instructor, Assistant Professor and Associate Dean of Students. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1971, earning a post-doctoral degree in Higher Education & Higher Administration. From 1972-1975 Charlie was Dean of Students & Administrative Assistant to the Vice-President of Student Affairs at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. In 1975 Charlie joined the Point Park University as Dean of Students, retiring in 2002 when he was Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students. He then joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at Point Park as a University Relations Associate. Charlie's former memberships include, Sons of the American Revolution, Botanical Society of America, Harvard-Yale-Princeton Club, Pittsburgh, Rotary Club of Fox Chapel. He was a volunteer at the Neighborhood Academy, Pittsburgh, tutoring and conducting seminars for seniors in college orientation and preparation, and found this volunteer experience very rewarding. He was a Board Member for 25 years at St. Peter's Child Development Center & Early Leaning Institute. Charlie was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, serving as a Lay Reader, Chalice Bearer, Confirmation teacher, and Christian Education teacher. He was appointed by the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh to the Commission on Ministry and Board of Examining Chaplains (Presbyterate) and Chairman of the Board of Examining Chaplains (Diaconate). Upon retirement he was honored to adopt by rescue in succession, Miniature Schnauzers, Franklin and Madison, who each served as companion and loving housemate with Charlie. A memorial service for Charlie will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 on June 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
