Louis Olszewski

Louis "Lou" Olszewski, age 97, of Blawnox, died on June 25, 2024. Born August 28, 1926, in Sharpsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Waclaw and Tekla (Jedlowski) Olszewski and the husband of the late Edith (Mazzie) Olszewski. Lou was a man who wore many hats throughout his lifetime. After honorably serving his country in the United States Navy, he continued to demonstrate his commitment to his fellow veterans as an active member of the American Legion. His dedication to service was further exemplified through his work as a Meals on Wheels driver, where he delivered not only sustenance but also companionship to those in need. An active member of Christ the King Parish, St. Edwards Church, Lou's deep faith was evident as he served with devotion as a Eucharistic Minister and reader. His contributions to the church community were a testament to his faith-filled life. His commitment to community service extended to his role as a Blawnox Auxiliary Policeman and his time spent umpiring for the Blawnox Little League, where he was a mentor and friend to many aspiring young athletes. He was a familiar and respected figure, known for his fairness and friendly nature, and his presence on the field will be profoundly missed. Away from his community roles, Lou found joy in the simpler pleasures of life. He was an exceptional baker, known for his delicious rolls, nut bread, and pies that were eagerly anticipated at family gatherings. In his quiet moments, he could be found savoring the occasional cigar, a small indulgence that he truly enjoyed. Lou leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love. His memory will continue to be a beacon of light for all who had the privilege of knowing him. Lou is survived by his children, LouAnn (David) Szelong, Mark (Nancy) Olszewski and Mary Olszewski; grandchildren, Tekla (Kenneth) Colon, Benjamin (Kori) Szelong, Raeann (Matthew) Green, Kaleigh (Matt) Sutherland, and Dr. Carly Jo (Wilson) Pappo; seven great grandchildren and Little Nancy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara (Stan) Ruezkiewtcz and Marie (Wally) Niziol. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas M. Smith Funeral Home & Crematory Ltd; 930 Center Avenue Blawnox, PA, 15238. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., Christ the King Parish, St. Edward Church, 448 Walnut St. Blawnox, PA 15238. EVERYONE IS TO MEET AT CHURCH.
