George Edgar Coles Sr.

George Edgar Coles, Sr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, received his wings on October 11, 2024, at his home in Penn Hills, Pa. George was born one of four children in Pittsburgh, Pa., on August 31, 1956, to Robert C. Coles, Sr., and Eleanor J. (Brown) Coles, both who proceeded him in death. After the death of his father, the family moved to Penn Hills, where he was raised by his mother. George graduated from Penn Hills Senior High School in 1974 and then attended Edinboro University. An avid drawer, he then attended and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where he earned his associate degree; and Point Park College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts and Design, in 1988. His artwork could be found in various places, including the Hill House Association. George was employed by the Pittsburgh Parking Authority and then, in 1983, went on to make a career at the United States Postal Service, where he retired in 2014, after 30 years of service. He started as a mail handler and through hard work, then advanced to the role of supervisor. It was in 1984 that he married the love of his life Kimberly A. Pennington. On October 13, they would have celebrated 40 years of marriage. From their beautiful union, they had three children: George, Jr., Corey, and Brandy. George was proud of his family and always enjoyed spending time with them. George loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. He grew up in Bethel A.M.E. Church, in Pittsburgh, Pa.; was baptized at Mt. Rise Baptist Church, in New Homestead, Pa.; and later attended Free Holiness Church of Deliverance, in Clairton, Pa., where he became a deacon in 2004. George was also a member of the Prince Hall Masons. A basketball enthusiast, his favorite past-time was watching the Lakers, his favorite team. An unselfish man, George loved and deeply cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Coles; his children, George E. Coles, Jr. (Alexis), Corey A. Coles (Brooke), and Brandy T. Coles, all of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, Ameerah, Corbyn, Mason, Ronald, Joshua, Giovanni, George, III, Journee, and Kori-Dream; his siblings, Robert Coles (Robin), Michelle Johnson, and Joel Coles (Raella); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
